VICK’S CONFIDENCE MAY BE EAGLES BEST CHANCE AGAINST THE PACK

admin

Mike Vick will see the blitz on almost every play agains the Packers

If the Eagles do not win Sunday, and move past the Green Bay Packers in their Wild Card playoff game at the Linc, their last win of the 2010 season will have been that epic comeback victory over the New York Giants.

A loss and the Birds will have dropped three straight.

A loss and those incredible eight minutes will be viewed by many as an aberration, that the Eagles never belonged in the playoffs.

One positive Eagles fans can look at is of the two losses, only one was a game that had any meaning in the standings and that was the 24-14 loss to the Minnesota Vikings who started a third-string quarterback.

Eagles quarterback had his worst game of the season that day. He was asked if the team learned more from that loss than from any victory this season.

“I would hope so,” Vick said. “I think everyone took a look at that film and really critiqued it and tried to figure out what we can do to get better. I am almost 100 percent sure we’re going to get the same type of looks (from Green Bay)…they might not be the exact same looks but it will be similar. We have to be ready for it and I think we learned a lot (from the loss to Minnesota).”

Vick was sacked six times in that game largely from the creative looks they got from the Vikings.
Vick said that is just the way it will be from here on out.

“Pretty much that’s the way it’s going to be,” Vick said. “They’re going to come after you, they’re going to try and get you rattled, get you off your script…but that’s football.”

Vick hardly seemed nervous at all at his locker Wednesday.

He has written a script for this season that could not have been made up by a screenplay writer.

Vick obviously would like to bring down the house with his finish. To accomplish that feat, he admitted he needs to keep his emotions in check.

“I’ll be very calm,” Vick said. “I’m excited to be out there but very clam at the same time. You can’t get too high in this league, and can’t get too low, you have to stay even keeled and that’s what I’ll do.”

KEY MATCHUP: Right defensive end Trent Cole against Packers left tackle Chad Clifton, who was selected to the Pro Bowl this season and Juqua Parker at left defensive end against rookie right tackle Bryan Bulaga.

The Eagles are going to need to drop as many players as possible into coverage, so it is imperative Parker and Cole get pressure on Packers quarterback Aaron Rogers one-on-one.

It would seem the best chance for success the Eagles have with these matchups is the Parker-Bulaga duel.

The former Iowa standout is a beast but can he handle the speed and athleticism of Parker?

In future scrums, Bulaga may have the edge, but Sunday, Parker’s experience should be the difference.

If it isn’t, it could be a long day for the Birds.

PREDICTION: All week long I was sure I was going to take the Packers to win, but after seeing and hearing the confidence Vick displayed at his locker this week, it is hard to pick against him
