Frank Sinatra sings one of my favorite song “Here’s to the Losers.” Every year I grab Phil Steele’s College Football Preview and flip through so many articles it makes my head spin. There’s strength of schedule, top prospects for the draft, and even those “dark horse teams.” I played on a small football team in High School and we played our hearts out but never won anything. I eventually flip to the power rankings and look at the teams in last place.
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.; September 1, 2016 – Penn State head coach James Franklin has been selected to the East Stroudsburg Athletic Hall of Fame as a member of the 2016 class. Franklin was a standout quarterback for the Warriors. Franklin and the other members of the class will be honored on October 15, 2016 as part of ESU’s Homecoming Weekend activities.
The Eagles play the New York Jets Thursday night at the Linc (7 p.m. NBC 10). The Birds, like last year, enter this game 3-0 with a quarterback in Sam Bradford who has been lights out again in the preseason.
Eagles fans and observers are much more cautious about predictions than they were last year when many predicted Super Bowl glory. Most starters will not play.
It’s amazing to me that time has flown by and we’re already in week one of the season. I am excited to watch the team open the season in Beaver Stadium starting at home. We’ve been very, very pleased with what they did this summer as well as in camp. [The team] had an excellent camp in our opinion. Excited to watch the guys go out and perform.
Mayor Kenney Declares Wednesday “Philadelphia Soul World Champions Day”
The Philadelphia Soul is pleased to announce that there will be a championship celebration rally at the City Hall Courtyard at 12 p.m. on Wednesday, August 31. Following the rally, which is expected to last 45 minutes, the team will head to Chickie’s and Pete’s in South Philly to continue the celebration.
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.; August 29, 2016 – Former Penn State standout Derrick Williams is joining the Penn State Sports Network broadcast team as a sideline reporter. Williams joins the Voice of the Nittany Lions, Steve Jones, and Penn State “Linebacker U.” legend Jack Ham on all broadcasts this season.
Exactly two preseason games have been played thus far by the 2016 Philadelphia Eagles. The star of those two meaningless exhibition games has been the defense. The stat line says so…BOLDLY! 1 TD has been surrendered while they have scored 1 TD themselves. Accumulating 5 sacks 2 forced fumbles and intercepting 6 passes. All with little or no blitzing.
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Victor Cruz had a ball, even if he caught just one.
The Giants’ electrifying wide receiver and fan favorite made his long-awaited return to game action Saturday, when the Giants defeated the Jets, 21-20, in the annual MetLife Bowl. Cruz caught only one pass – a four-yarder to the right side on the first play of the second half – but that didn’t mitigate his tremendous joy at playing his first game in 22 months. It’s possible a former Pro Bowler and Super Bowl winner never felt better about such a slim statistical line.
Eagles reduced their roster to 73 players
Following today’s moves, the roster currently stands at 73 players. The Eagles play the New York Jets Thursday September 1 in the preseason finale. The game is at the Linc 7:00 p.m. (NBC10)
