Every football coach will tell you that a third of any game is special teams. But not every coach spends a third of their practice time sharpening the many blades of special teams. As a result, most special teams aren’t special. They are just teams.
That’s what the Eagles were the past two seasons under special team coordinator Bobby April. They were teams. One additional truism from all special team coaches are that “we want to win two games each year because of our special teams and we want to never lose a game because of poor special team play.”

For the first time in Arena Football League history, the ArenaBowl championship game will feature the same two teams from the year before. The defending champion Arizona Rattlers (15-3) will take on their ArenaBowl XXV adversaries, the Philadelphia Soul (12-6) again in front of a national audience on the CBS Television Network in ArenaBowl XXVI on Saturday, August 17. Four Players Make First-Team ALL AFL, One to Second-Team…but more important…
The Philadelphia Soul will play the Jacksonville Sharks in the American Conference Championship to advance to ArenaBowl XXXVI. The game is between the top two seeds of the conference. Kickoff is set for Saturday, Aug. 10 at 7 p.m. ET in Jacksonville. The two teams faced off in last season’s American Conference Championship when the Soul won, 89-34. NFL training camps aren’t what they used to be, thanks to the 2011 collective bargaining agreement and coaches understandably fearful of seeing players suffer injuries. Gone are the days of twice-daily practices, players in full pads for every workout and frequent tackling. The Giants are one of many teams that refrain from tackling in camp practices.
