OWLS COME UP SHORT AGAINST UCLA

Washington DC – The Temple Owls ran out of magic in the second half of the Eagle Bank Bowl as they fell short against UCLA 30-21 at RFK Stadium. The Owls took a 21-10 lead at halftime but their offense – without sensational freshman running back Bernard Pierce, who was hurt – was shutdown in the final 30 minutes and the Bruins were able to chip away. They finally took the lead with just over 6 minutes left when Akeem Ayers intercepted Vaughn Charlton and took it in from 2 yards out. The Owls ensuing possession ended when the snap sailed over punter Jake Brownell’s head for a safety. Then all that was left was for UCLA (7-6) to run out the clock on the Owls (9-4) first bowl appearance in 30 years.
