COWBOYS COACH LEARNS NOT TO TUG ON VICK’S CAPE

Mike Vick, along with LeSean McCoy dominted the highly rated Cowboys defense.

Legendary singer/songwriter Jim Croce once warned everyone about certain dos and don’ts if you don’t want to suffer the consequences:

You don’t tug on Superman’s cape
You don’t spit into the wind
You don’t pull the mask off that old Lone Ranger
And you don’t mess around with Jim

If Croce watched the Eagles-Dallas NFL game Sunday night, he may have added one more line to his iconic chorus:

“You don’t tell the country you are going to kick Mike Vick’s ass then give him three months to think about.”

The Eagles dismantled the Dallas Cowboys on national network television in a way that no Eagles team has done in….well…maybe ever.
The final score was 34-7 and the Cowboys. The Eagles No.1 rival never showed a pulse.

The Birds scored on their first six possessions eventually leading 34-0 with 13:21 left in the fourth quarter.

Vick and LeSean McCoy completed dominated Rob Ryan’s defense with McCoy rushing 30 times for 185 yards and two touchdowns.

The third-year back was named NFC Player of the Week.

Vick rushed seven times for 50 yards and went 21 of 28 passing for 279 yards, two touchdowns, no interceptions and a 129.9 rating. He was sacked four times, all by linebacker DeMarcus Ware.

Ryan refused to say he was wrong about his August statement that the Cowboys were not the “All Hype Team” referring to the Eagles and followed that with the statement that his defense was going to “kick their ass.”

But he did free admit that Sunday night it was his behind that took a whooping.

“I never say anything I don’t believe,” said Ryan, in his first year as defensive coordinator for the Cowboys. “Hopefully it will be the last time it ever happens. Whatever happened out there was all my fault.

“Honestly, our defensive staff did a great job…I was too aggressive early and it killed us,” Ryan continued in front of a hoard of reporters in the Dallas post-game locker room. “Then we’re out of the game, you’re scrambling the rest of the game to even be competitive. And again, it all comes down to coaching, Andy Reid was reading my mail, kicked my ass. I just have to go back and work harder and be smarter.”

McCoy said Ryan’s remarks were definitely an added motive to the players in the Eagles locker room.

“Coach Ryan got everyone hyped up a little bit,” McCoy said after the game. “And our offensive line took it kind of personal…it felt like it in the huddle and with the intensity we had and the determination, if like they (offensive line) we motivated and it showed.”

Cowboys enigmatic quarterback Tony Romo had a dreadful day passing going 18 for 35 for 203 yards, an interception and a quarterback rating of 66.7.

His lone bright spot was a 70-yard touchdown pass in garbage time to Laurent Robinson with 12:44 left in the game.

Cowboys rookie running back DeMarco Murray was solid rushing eight times for 74 yards.

Eagles middle linebacker Jamar Chaney led a swarming, focused defense with seven tackles total and defended pass. Jason Babin came through with two sacks, Trent Cole – returning after a leg injury held him out of the last game, registered a sack as did tackle Trevor Laws.

Asante Samuel, fresh from his “clear the air” conversation earlier in the week, produced four tackles and kept the Cowboys receivers in check for most of the game.

He proclaimed the Eagles were poised for a run.

“We’re getting it together a little bit,” Samuel said. “That’s Andy’s motto right? Come off the bye week; we get a little streak going playing really well. We did that today. It’s kind of like a turning point, that’s how we’re going to look at it. It’s good, it’s good. I hope you put the Eagles for your fantasy team this week…on all sides…y’all better listen to me.”

One thing is for sure, no one is going to be tugging on anyone’s cape.
