Soon after the Giants ended the 2012 season without a postseason berth, John Mara said the Giants would be a better team in 2013. With training camp beginning tomorrow, the team’s president and chief executive officer was asked today if he still believes that.
COACH KELLY: It was good. We knew we had to slow things down from a teaching standpoint. You’ve only got a couple kids at certain positions: you have one inside linebacker, one outside linebacker, two corners, one safety. So our plan was, as the coaching staff, to get out here for about an hour. Really technique-oriented, get guys back, and just spend some time, because sometimes once you get toFriday and you’re back into scheme and everything’s happening and there are 90 guys running around and everybody’s flying around, these young guys can use as much practice time as they can. We haven’t been with them since June, so it was good to get back out here.
Johnson (6-6, 310) was the Eagles first-round pick and fourth overall selection in the 2013 NFL Draft. The 23-year-old played collegiately as a quarterback, tight end and defensive lineman before transitioning to the offensive line as a junior in 2011. After transferring from Kilgore College in 2009, Johnson went on to appear in 32 career games at Oklahoma, starting 25 total contests (13 at left tackle, 12 at right tackle). He garnered second-team All-Big 12 honors as a senior after anchoring a Sooner offense that ranked 12th in the nation with 497.9 yards per game.
Parcells will be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame next month. He is the 19th Hall of Famer who spent all or a significant portion of his career with the Giants. Parcells’ longest stint with one team was his eight-year tenure with the Giants from 1983-90. His 77 regular-season victories with the Giants place him third among head coaches in the 88-year history of the franchise. The leader is Hall of Famer Steve Owen with 151, followed by current coach Tom Coughlin, who has 83 and counting.
Parcells was 8-3 in the postseason and led the Giants to victories in Super Bowls XXI and XXV.
Since the store is located in the heart of the Main Line, it is not unusual to see public and entertainment figures such as comedian Wanda Sykes and director Peter Jackson (Lord of the Rings Trilogy) shopping at the showroom that represents great fitness brands such as Cybex, Hoist and True.
Matt Birk – Recently retired Pro Bowl center for the Super Bowl Champion Baltimore Ravens makes his debut on the NFL Network with veteran analyst Brian Baldinger.
As an alumni of Harvard and a father of six, between the ages of one and 10, Matt Birk had important parental duties at his new home in Florida. Perhaps this TV gig could help ease the transition period from NFL player to dad and to whatever is next.
There are questions that Eagles new Head Coach Kelly hopes to answer before the Eagles take on the defending NFC East Champion Washington Redskins September 9 on the road on Monday Night Football.
The Eagles will be holding joint practices with the New England Patriots at the NovaCare Complex from August 6-7 prior to their preseason game at Lincoln Financial Field on August 9. This will be the first time the Eagles have held joint practices with another team during training camp since 1998 when the Eagles held a scrimmage and two joint practices with the Buffalo Bills at Lehigh University. Season ticket holders will be randomly invited to attend these practices as well.
