ANDREWS CHANGES BUT NOT HIS NEW TEAM’S STADIUM

The New Meadowlands Stadium look a lot like the old one.
The New Meadowlands Stadium is a magnificent structure that is now the official home of the New York Football Giants and the New York Jets.
It has four state of the art video screens that are massive and versatile. The technology all around the stadium is just as modern and dazzling.
The concourses are friendly and logistically sound so to make purchasing food, beverages and souvenirs hasslefree and inviting.
The field is bright green and seems to have all the traction bugs experienced when it first opened worked out.
The only problem is New Meadowlands Stadium looks just like Old Meadowlands Stadium, AKA Giants Stadium.
“Well, it is bigger,” said one stadium worker shrugging his shoulders after the Pittsburgh Steelers knocked off the Giants in a preseason game. “It does really does resemble the old stadium.”
One media type called New Meadowlands Stadium, “a compromise stadium.”
New stadiums opened in recent years by teams including the Steelers, Philadelphia Eagles, Baltimore Ravens, Washington Redskins and Dallas Cowboys saw each team make a dramatic change in the look and structure to their new homes.
What happens when two separate personalities are involved in agreeing on creativity? Apparently not very much.
It is believed that neither brass from the Jets or the Giants would allow the other to put its signature on the look of the new, immense structure…so football fans from both clubs were left with…well, a bigger, newer but essentially same Giants Stadium – now equipped with $1.7 billion video screens.
The same could not be said for former Eagles All-Pro guard Shawn Andrews.
Change he has indeed.
The former first round draft pick out of Arkansas was recently signed by the Giants in an effort to add depth to an offensive line that has been hit hard by injuries during this preseason.
Eagles fans and coaches were continuously let down by the enormously talented blocker. Andrews showed limitless talent but was plagued by injuries and frustrating emotional problems.
After six seasons, Eagles head coach Andy Reid finally had enough and released Andrews in March.
After the Giants dropped a 24-17 decision to the Steelers, Andrews – who did not suit up for the game – answered some questions about his new situation.
Andrews has obviously lost weight. How much? No one is saying but Andrews looked downright lean.
Also gone was the rainbow-colored mohawk haircut and his cloths were noticeably mainstream.
Andrews was reminded his signing had raised some eyebrows in Philadelphia and that he was back on everyone’s radar.
“I am expecting it, I am aware of it (the scrutiny),” Andrews said. “I knew that coming in. I am ready to play.”
Giants tight end Kevin Boss said he and his teammates regarded the signing as a plus.
“It was a big pickup for us,” Boss said. “We’re a little banged on the offensive line with (Chris) Snee and (Rich) Seubert both out. Signing Shawn will definitely help us out.”
The look on Andrews’ face could be interpreted as the look of a man who has been humbled. It could also be described as a man with the look of a tremendous feeling of relief.
“I feel great,” Andrews said. “I am ready to go. I have to thank the Giants for signing me.” Andrews stopped, thought for a moment and said softly…”it’s my last chance.”
