MCNABB IS ‘EXCITED’ ABOUT MOVE TO WASHINGTON BUT WANTS TO SPEAK TO CAMPBELL

Former Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb is looking forward to playing in Washington.
Andy Reid said his only starting quarterback during his 11 years as head coach of the Eagles was okay with the trade that sent the six-time Pro Bowler to the Washington Redskins in exchange for a second round pick in this year’s draft and a third or fourth round pick in 2011.
Apparently Reid was telling the truth.
McNabb, who was traded Sunday night, said he is “absolutely looking forward to this … absolutely. I’m excited about it, no question.”
McNabb spoke by telephone with Washington Post columnist Mike Wilbon for a column on the trade.
McNabb said he was concerned about the reaction of Redskins quarterback Jason Campbell, who remains under the Redskins’ control but is not under contract.
“I need to get in touch with Jason,” McNabb told Wilbon. “I need to hear his thoughts on all this… You know I really like Jason.”
Shanahan statement
Redskins Coach Mike Shanahan, in a statement released by the team:
“Donovan is an accomplished quarterback who has been a proven winner in the National Football League. I have long admired his competitiveness and feel he will be an outstanding addition to the Redskins and our community. He knows our division and the roadmap to success in the NFC East. He will set a high standard of excellence and we are very excited to welcome Donovan to the Washington Redskins.”
